Kids Recipes
Anybody got some good kids recipes or tea time ideas?
I’m thinking and will definitely post a few of my fairy’s favourites.
Clementines...
These beautiful Clementines are for sale where I work. They looked so beautiful I bought several for my little one. She absolutely loves fruit. If you mention berries she skips around the room. Well these clementines lived up to it, so sweet and full of juice. Hope there is some more at the market this weekend.

Toddlers and Food
My little one who is nearly 27 months has her days with food and I will say not only can it be worrying for Mummy and Daddy but very frustrating. The last two days have been particularly hard. She has eaten very little is drinking lots and still has bundles of energy. So is definitely not sick. Just one of those times. Patience is the key for me.
Anyway I had a copy of the fantastic Observer Food...
and after drinking the healthy juice a big slice of this was in order. Chocolate Beetroot cake……delicious.
Beetroot - 2 Ways
My great friend and fantastic vegetable grower passed me a bag of beetroot last week. By the way I love beetroot. Rather that making my usual carrot & beet salad or goats cheese and roasted beet salad. I came up with two new yum ideas.
Here goes - Beetroot (including the tops) apple, celery & carrot juice.

Earth Hour 2010
On Saturday March 27th at 8.30pm Ireland will join the rest of the world in the 4th annual Earth Hour. We are urged not to just turn our lights off for an hour but to make a positive lasting change for our environment.
So turn the lights off on saturday night, open the curtains and let the moon and stars shine in. How romantic is that. Make it special.
Heres to joining 1 billion people around...

Flour, Eggs, Milk....
Baking with my little girl is such fun. Its all in the getting ready -aprons on (she has a cute chef hat) every bowl and utensil gets taken out of the cupboard. This is one of those times in my day where i let it all go. Both kitchen and us full of flour, jam, sugar or whatever other ingredient we are using. We pull the adult kitchen chair over to the work top and we add ingredients together,...

Obesity and Ireland
I live close to a girls secondary school and every day at lunchtime or school home time I notice the traffic is so congested in my area. I always think to myself why are these girls parents collecting them from school?
They are, at the very youngest, 12 or 13, so surely they can get the bus or walk home from school with their friends. But then I began to notice that if its not the girls been...

little hiccups that can cause discomfort while...
Some common compaints while pregnant but why do they happen – Nausea for me was slight while pregnant, the first few weeks I felt a little off and somethimes pukey but after that it went away. I do know some pregnant mums who have been horribly sick and some all day. Is it as the “old wives tale” says a sign of a boy or a girl? Or is it to do with something else.
Believe it or not nausea is a...

Anti-bacterial Soap - offers no benefits ?
How interesting is this!
As everybody goes around spending a fortune on hand sanitisers and big corporations pocket the profits, heres an interesting article I recently read.
Anti-bacterial soaps do kill bacteria and microbes — but so do plain soap and water. A U.S. FDA advisory committee found that use of antibacterial soaps provides no benefits over plain soap and water.
The main...

Perfect Skin
When I was pregnant we thought a lot about what skin products to use on bump and baby. My lovely brother in law also an amazing editor had worked on a documentary about cosmetics and what hides inside them. During a visit he told us about the documentary and recommended checking out the American Environmental Working Groups website. Its a fantastic site www.cosmeticsdatabase.com you can type in...

Swine Flu & Pregnancy
I didn’t plan to write on swine flu as I do believe the media are giving us plenty of coverage on this topic. But having chatted to friends and family I do think its a big concern and one that may increase over the coming months here in Ireland.
While pregnant there is a whole lot to be concerned about and at the moment swine flu is a big concern pregnant or not. We know that pregnant women...

Little One Eats!
Well my little one was 17 months yesterday and we are both busy bees. Having lots of fun with new and nice things to eat. Her absolute recent favourites I must say are mine too. Everything from houmous, avocado with pitta or brown toast (oh how she loves toast) to yum fish pie, pasta with everything and anything. And our new favourite juices which is also our favourite pastime. I must say she did...

Heartburn
With just a few weeks to go…..I am still wondering should I purchase the everloving rennie. I think every mum I have spoke to has talked to me about heartburn. Have never had it before so not sure what I should be looking out for. I hear though I’ll definitely know when I have it.
So its light, energy giving food for me for the next couple of weeks. I find smaller meals more often is best.

Midweek Meals
Some of my favourite things I like to cook.
Breakfast – must have some.
Porridge with Natural yoghurt, honey & nuts.
Granola – very simple to make your own and you can add whatever you fancy. Coat some rolled oats with apple juice, add any nuts you like Almonds, pecans or hazelnuts are especially good. Add some dried blueberries. Spread on a baking tray in a low to medium oven for twenty...

Cheese and Pregnancy - a cheesemongers view
Over the next couple of posts I am going to chat about one of my true loves (other than my boyfriend or my little growing baby) but cheese.
As a cheesemonger in my fifth month of pregnancy I am quite concerned about all the different advice on what to and what not to eat. Whats good for you and baby and whats not.
Take cheese for example, most doctors and the like tell you to avoid all...

To Supplement or Not?
I love all food but for the first time in my life (other than when I am sick) certain foods are not on my current menu. Hopefully its only temporary. 8 weeks pregnant I am conscious of my growing baby getting all the important nutrients and vitamins he or she needs to grow and develop.
Today I can barely drink water. Normal I know at this stage but I do work at a busy cheese...

What is foodBump?
foodBump is an idea I came up with when I was six weeks pregnant. Awaiting our first scan at 12 weeks and keeping our secret, I found it hard to find real advice on what I could and couldn’t eat. I’m a very excited expecting mum along with a very excited protective Dad to be. We love food but at this point in our pregnancy everything I eat or don’t eat worries us.
We trawled...
